Recently here at Estate Agents Bordon towers we have recently had cause to require the services of a Gas Safe Boiler Repair Plumber to come and service our boiler it had failed and our radiators were not getting hot. The last chap who came out was unreliable and it seems had not effected a decent repair that had lasted less than 2 years. So we turned to that beacon of reputable workmanship Checkatrade.

We dutifully typed in “Boiler Repairs Bordon” and our postcode and here are the results with the results of our phone calls:

Not in good health, and not able to take on new work but did give some advice.

AW Ball Plumbing & Heating Engineers
No answer

Miller & Sons
Doesn’t do work himself uses another company, called them and rang us back. The mystery third party boiler repairers couldn’t get to us for 5 days.

Grayshott Heating
Short conversation, told him boiler type, sounded very doubtful whether he could fix it. Asked when it was installed and when it was last serviced. Told us to call the manufacturers. (4 years after installation!) Again, he was doubtful and is/was going to ring back if he can help. We’re still waiting…

Doesn’t do repairs, Despite this being listed in his description on “Checkatrade”
checked a week later and found no listing on first page of results on Checkatrade. Maybe he’s fed up of the many boiler repair Bordon phone calls???  But we took a copy…

BUT… Gas Safe registration comes up as “Unknown” on Gas Safe register. Not sure if this is an issue with Gas Safe, but all other registrations we tried worked fine, and when we mentioned it he said “Oh? Really? I must get that sorted.”

Took call, confirmed they do Boiler repairs, however right then was not convenient and promised to call back within 10 minutes… Either their clock stopped or their business did??? Not sure but never got a call back.

Steep Oil Tanks
This one is a weird listing, they don’t do domestic boiler repairs. Only supply oil storage tanks! Not sure why they are even in Checkatrade???

So all in all not a good range of Boiler Repair Companies operating in Bordon.
We eventually used Google and found a company willing to come out to us, Called on a Wednesday – can come to us the following Monday.

Took our call after 7pm, sounded a little weary but still was willing to commit to a time/date to visit us.

Well, today was the day, I waited in… Guess who never arrived?! Yup you guessed correctly! //www.altonplumbingandheating.com/ was a no show. I tried to call to find out what was happening and couldn;t find a mobile on their website, landline rang to answerphone. Anyway 10 mins after calling my phone rang and I think it was “Rod” told me “Something” had come up and was unable to make, could they call about the same time tomorrow?

Well knowing how hard it had been to get someone to commit to even come out the first time round I really had no option, with a couple of kids in a freezing house, but to say yes.

Watch this space, my history with tradesmen is not good, Rod better pull something special out his (tool) bag…

UPDATE 2nd October…

So it’s a no show by Rod from //www.altonplumbingandheating.com/ got a call at 10am, not sure what “something” again happened. You wanna watch out, something is going round, arghhh run for the hills. Dunno, mumbled phone msg about not turning up received this morning at 10am, when he was supposed to be here sometime this morning.

So let’s get busy with the phone book again!
